The EIB helps increase energy efficiency investments within Europe and beyond. The bank helps modernize residential and public buildings, renovate heating and cooling networks, replace public lighting, improve urban transport and upgrade waste and water management.

Eastern Partnership countries are setting ambitious targets for energy efficiency, so demand is high for energy investments. The EIB is helping many of these countries meet their energy goals. The bank signed an energy deal in 2016 in Ukraine, and other projects are planned in Armenia and Moldova this year. Similar energy actions are expected in Georgia and Belarus, as well as new ones in Armenia and Ukraine.
